Dental Bonding

Quite often, your smile is the very first thing that others notice about you. When you smile, one of the most notable features is your teeth. Imperfections in your teeth, even the smallest ones, can significantly affect the quality of your smile and leave you feeling self-conscious. Nicholas W. Feldman, DDS, MBA can enhance the appearance of flawed teeth, improving the quality of your smile, with dental bonding.

What is Dental Bonding?

There are some different minor issues that can have a significant impact on the quality of your smile. These issues include:
•  Minor chips and cracks that only affect your enamel
•  Gaps between your teeth
•  Small teeth
•  Misshapen teeth
•  Discoloration

Dental bonding is a cosmetic treatment that is performed to improve the appearance of flawed teeth and enhance your smile. The procedure uses composite resin to achieve this goal. Composite resin is a tooth-colored material made up of fine glass, plastic, and other materials. It can be molded and shaped in a variety of ways to meet many different needs.

The Dental Bonding Process

The process for dental bonding is very quick and easy. In most cases, it can be completed in about 30 minutes. The process is also non-invasive and does not require any alteration to the natural structure of your teeth. We begin by cleaning the teeth. Next, an acid etch is applied to the teeth where bonding will be applied. This acid etches a rough texture on your enamel, which aids in providing a strong bond between the composite resin and the tooth.

The acid is washed off and your teeth thoroughly dried. We then apply the composite resin to your teeth and shape it to achieve the ideal appearance. Once you are satisfied with the appearance of your teeth, a special light is used to cure, or dry, the material, leaving you with a beautiful new smile.

Special Considerations for Dental Bonding

Bonding is an incredibly effective treatment for improving the appearance of your teeth and your smile. It can, and should, be brushed and flossed just like your natural teeth. There are, however, some special considerations that should be kept in mind.

While composite resin can withstand most normal daily use, it can be cracked or chipped. Avoid biting or chewing on anything exceptionally hard, like ice or your fingernails, and do not use your teeth as tools. Composite resin, like your natural teeth, can also stain. Unlike your enamel, however, this material cannot be whitened. Instead, if you want to whiten your teeth, your bonding will need to be changed.

Dental Bonding Benefits

Bonding provides many benefits. These include:
•  Quick treatment. In most cases, bonding can be completed in around 30 minutes.
•  Non-invasive procedure. Treatment is non-surgical and completely non-invasive. We do not need to alter your tooth structure in any way, and you do not need a local anesthetic.
•  Affordability. Bonding is one of the most affordable cosmetic treatments available.

Dental bonding is simple, non-invasive, affordable way to improve the appearance of flawed teeth, enhancing the quality of your smile and giving you the confidence you need to show it off.
